Argentia Pond - Abandoned US Military Base | U24O Bikepacking Adventure

In my pursuit of new and exciting locations for bikepacking, one place that I always wanted to visit was the abandoned US Military base in Argentia, Newfoundland.

In the early 1940's the United States government built an elaborate military base (Navy, Army and Air Force) near Placentia, Newfoundland. The base was primarily used to assist ship conveys and for coastal patrol . . . and was in operation from 1941 to 1994. For more history on the base check out this great site - HiddenNewfoundland.ca.

Highlights of this U24O (Under 24 Hour Overnight) bikepacking video include:
  • Almost 95 km round trip on abandoned railway
  • First trip planned with GAIA
  • A pretty unique cabin
  • Absolutely gorgeous 5 km stretch of green trail
  • Visiting a super creepy underground hospital
  • Sleeping in an AMOK hammock without trees
  • What the $^%# was that sound in the middle of the night
All this in less than 24 hours.

After you check out the video be sure to take a peek at the bonus pics below.
